My first attempt writing a haiku about work. It’s a true story. This may in fact, was said to me once. It’s a bit obscure for my readers but I assure you that electricians reading this will be falling out of their chairs laughing. So, without further ado here is my Haiku with and the story that goes with it…
You Had One Job!
Tape the head up kid So many bends… Let’s soap it Where’s the damn bushing?!!
Well, I haven’t quit my day job yet. I laugh so hard each time I read this, I just had to share.
Before you pull wire, you must send a fish tape through a junction box into a conduit that leads to a panel, then tie on a rope, pull it back through the panel into the conduit and back out of the junction box that Jack built. Meanwhile, part of your team will set up a machine at the panel that will help pull the wire. The wire! Now someone should be at the other end setting up big heavy spools of wire, phasing the wire with the correct colored tape and striping the wire just enough to make up the head and tie it to the rope in order to pull it through the conduit that Jack ran. Now as you may know, shit rolls downhill and I as an apprentice gets hit with it all. Today I have ran back and forth and to and fro. I made up the head and wrapped it with tape, I hustled to find a bucket of soap to pull the wire with ease. I’m certainly proud of all that I’ve done. We are ready to pull the wire and that’s when my foreman looks up. “Where’s the damn bushing?!!! The plastic bushing that goes onto the connecter so that wire won’t scrape as we pull it into the junction box, through the conduit…”
I interrupt, ” Why didn’t Jack put it on before he walked away?”
“Jack got laid off a week ago. You had one job. Make sure all the bushings were on!”
“One job alright” I shake my head, “One job of many I suppose.”
I’ll see you on the next one
